Facelift

Our understanding of facial aging is improving every day. Rather than simply lifting, advanced techniques shape and contour the face. In time, facial soft tissue and fat deflation, gravity, muscle changes, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jaw line slackens with deflated fat compartments, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts counteract these problems by shaping fat and tightening skin, muscles and ligaments, giving your face a fresher, more youthful look. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in natural folds of the face and ears, and scars fade nicely with time. Often, fat or other substances are injected to fill areas of the face that are flat and reveal the aging process. After surgery, some patients appear 10-15 years younger.

Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

One of the most common and challenging plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects, or other problems that affect breathing. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia and lasts one to three hours. It is critical that your Plastic Surgeon knows the nasal anatomy and has an eye for providing natural results. Because of these challenges, we are seeing more and more patients needing revisions and corrective nasal surgery. Dr. Ghavami specializes in primary and revisional nasal surgery and educates his patients on what changes will work best with their facial features and ethnicity. "Ethnic rhinoplasty""(Hispanic, African American, Middle Eastern, and Asian Noses)" presents a unique situation as nasal anatomy and shapes vary significantly. Care must be taken not to erase a person's heritage but to just enhance and soften nasal features. He has written several textbook chapters on topics such as "Tip Shaping" and "Middle Eastern Rhinoplasty." In addition, he has authored and co-authored a host of articles on rhinoplasty topics.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing or shaping excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Many times the surrounding ligaments of the eyelids need to be repositioned. Eyelid surgery may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. The procedure can be performed in an office with local anesthesia or when lower eyelids and extensive changes are needed, in the operating room. Blepharoplasty can be combined with a facelift, fillers, or BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes. Many times, eyelid lines and shadows require filling and contouring with injectable fillers such as Restylane® , Juvéderm™, or a patient's own fatty tissue. When these procedures are combined with a browlift and or facial contouring (facelift), the results can be truly amazing. Dr. Ghavami received the First Place Presentation Award from the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting for his work on the ligament around the eyes that creates the aged appearance of the eyelids.

Browlift (Open & Endoscopic/ Minimal Incision)

Browlifts can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. Dr. Ghavami has helped further define these target muscles through extensive anatomical research that has earned him the prestigious Gaspar Anastasi Award at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery meeting. A browlift is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face and restore aesthetic balance to the upper face.
As in a facelift, it is very important to respect the hairline whether making tiny incisions behind the hairline or along the hairline.

Chin Augmentation (Chin Implant)

Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty/genioplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone. Many times a plastic surgeon may recommend chin surgery to a patient having nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, as the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Furthermore, chin surgery can strengthen the jawline in youth and in combination with a facelift and neck lift. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.

Mid-Face Lift

A mid-face lift restores youthful vitality to the mid-face, lifting and shaping the cheeks to achieve a natural rejuvenated look without the need to undergo a full facelift. This procedure is often reserved for women and men that are not yet in need of a full facelift, usually in their forties. Midface lifts are ideal for reducing puffiness under the eyes, improving the contour of the upper cheeks, and reducing nasolabial folds. Incisions are small and hidden in the eyelids and behind the hair line. A tiny camera is used to guide the surgery and keep incisions small. Midface lifts are often performed in conjunction with lower-lid blepharoplasty to rejuvenate the area around the eyes or with implants to further accentuate the cheeks. Fat injection to restore the deflation of the face that occurs with aging is often combined with a midface lift to fill lines and establish a youthful cheek contour.

Fat Transfer

Fat injection reduces wrinkles and creases and plumps up areas that have lost volume as a result of surgery, injury, aging or another cause. With recent surgery, it is becoming more clear that the fat compartments of the face deflate with age and need to be filled. Transplanted fat that comes from the patient him - or herself does not carry a risk of allergic reaction or rejection. Other advantages include a short recovery time, long-lasting results and effectiveness on any skin type. It is difficult to say exactly what percentage of the fat will survive long-term in each patient. However, the fat that does survive becomes a part of the patient's own natural body.

Scar Revision

Scar revision is performed to reduce the appearance of scars caused by injury or previous surgery. Scars are by definition permanent, but surgery can narrow, fade and otherwise reduce the appearance of severe or unattractive scarring, which is especially helpful in areas of cosmetic importance such as the face and hands.

Lip Augmentation / Lip Enhancement

Full and vivacious lips have always been recognized as aesthetically important features. They are a central part of the face that everyone recognizes in daily social interactions. Some of us, however, are born with thin, ill-defined lips, or our lips lose their fullness with age. But the appearance of our lips is now within our control. Fine lines and wrinkles, thin lips and a drooping corner of the mouth are all areas that can be aided with injectable fillers. The market is ever changing, with new products appearing rapidly. Care is individualized to provide a safe and effective treatment option, whether it is a commercially available filler material or a patient's own fat. Sometimes, specialized incisions can lift or plump up the lips.

Otoplasty (Ear Reduction or "Pinning")

Ear surgery for children or adults can set prominent ears back closer to the head and reduce the size of large ears. Surgery may also be helpful for "lop ear," "cupped ear" and "shell ear," large or stretched earlobes, and lobes with creases and wrinkles. The procedure lasts from two to three hours and may be performed in a hospital or an outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. The results are immediate and are critical to many people's self esteem.
