About Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is commonly chosen by individuals looking to restore breast volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, achieve a more balanced figure, or enhance their natural breast shape and size for personal or aesthetic reasons. Whether you are seeking subtle enhancement or a more dramatic transformation, breast augmentation can be tailored to your unique goals. At Ghavami Plastic Surgery, we use a technique called the Flash Recovery Breast Augmentation®, which is designed to minimize bleeding and trauma during the procedure, allowing you to recover more quickly than ever!

Breast Implants

One of the most important steps of breast augmentation is implant selection. We offer a range of different breast implants, including saline and silicone “gummy bear” implants. During your consultation, your surgeon will help you find the most suitable implant for your specific goals.

  • Saline Implants: Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and are FDA-approved for patients above 18. (1) These implants are known to have a firmer feel. Some patients find comfort in knowing immediately if there is a device malfunction or rupture. Saline implants will deflate immediately as the body reabsorbs the saline.
  • Silicone Implants: Silicone implants are filled with a silicone gel and are designed to mimic the softness of natural breast tissue. These implants can reduce the risk of rippling in patients with less or thinner breast tissue. (1)
  • Gummy Bear Implants: Gummy bear implants are the most recent generation of silicone implants that are filled with a highly cohesive silicone gel. These implants can maintain shape and projection and minimize the appearance of rippling. The FDA suggests that patients with silicone implants obtain an MRI or high-resolution ultrasound 5 years after implantation and every 3 years after that as surveillance for rupture.

When selecting an implant, it is very important that the chosen implant is not too large. Our surgeons are committed to selecting implants that are proportional to your body, avoiding sizes that may lead to long-term issues such as skin thinning, rib distortion, or the need for revision surgery. Their extensive experience ensures that aesthetics, short-term health, and long-term health are prioritized.

Candidates

Candidates for breast augmentation typically include women who are interested in improving the size, shape, symmetry, or volume of their breasts. Breast augmentation may also benefit patients who are considering breast reconstruction. (1) Our surgeons have experience in improving the appearance after mastectomy and breast reconstruction in patients diagnosed with cancer or carrying a high-risk genetic mutation for malignancy. Whether you are interested in having them perform your reconstruction from the beginning or make adjustments afterwards, our surgeons are here to assist you at any point in your reconstructive journey.

Anyone interested in breast augmentation should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations for their results. The surgeon will evaluate each patient’s medical history and anatomy during their consultation to determine their candidacy.

Personal Consultation

Before scheduling your breast augmentation, you will need to attend a personal consultation with your surgeon. During this consultation, they will ask you about your medical history, concerns, and desired results, as well as perform a physical examination. This information will be used to determine candidacy and develop a customized treatment plan.

Your surgeon will help you explore your breast implant options and recommend the best surgical techniques and strategies to employ during the procedure.

Crisalix 3D Imaging Technology

Your surgeon may decide to use Crisalix 3D imaging technology to help you visualize your potential outcome. This advanced tool allows you to see a realistic simulation of your results based on different implant types and sizes before committing to breast augmentation. The aim is to help you feel more confident and informed in your decision-making, ensuring that your chosen implant complements your natural proportions and aligns with your expectations.

To schedule your consultation, please submit our online contact form. If you have any questions or would prefer scheduling over the phone, please call our Beverly Hills office at (310) 275-1959.

Preparation

Your surgeon will provide a set of pre-operative instructions before your procedure to help you prepare for your breast augmentation.

  • Stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements as advised by your doctor
  • Avoid alcohol and nicotine for several weeks before your surgery
  • Arrange for a trusted friend or family member to drive you home after the procedure
  • Follow all additional instructions to help optimize your recovery and results

Procedure

During the Flash Recovery Breast Augmentation® procedure, the surgeon places the implant under the pectoralis muscle (sub-pectoral or sub-muscular pocket). (3) They use heat cautery, not blunt dissection, to create the pocket, which minimizes bleeding and reduces trauma to breast tissue and the ribcage. The surgery involves minimal bleeding, resulting in less tissue trauma overall.

Thanks to our surgeons’ technical expertise and efficient approach, the operation time is significantly reduced, with many patients completing the procedure in as little as 30 to 45 minutes.

Recovery

One of the many benefits of choosing to work with the surgeons at Ghavami Plastic Surgery is the quick recovery time after your breast augmentation. Our specialized techniques are designed to provide significantly less post-operative pain compared to traditional augmentation procedures, with most patients being able to return to the majority of their daily activities within 24 hours. Your surgeon will encourage early post-operative motion as well.

During your consultation, you will receive a full set of post-operative instructions to help guide you through your recovery. You will receive a surgical bra that will maintain and protect your breasts and minimize swelling as you return to your routine.

How long does it take to recover from breast augmentation?

Our surgeons use a specialized technique created by Dr. Ghavami called the Flash Recovery Breast Augmentation®. This technique will allow you to return to most of your daily activities within 24 hours, but you may be directed to refrain from certain activities for another several days to weeks to ensure your body has fully recovered.

How long will my breast implants last once they are placed?

Breast implants are not considered permanent or lifetime devices; they last between 10 and 15 years on average. You will need to attend regular follow-up appointments to monitor and maintain your implants, as some patients may need replacements sooner than others.

Will breast implants affect my ability to breastfeed in the future?
