Beverly Hills & Los Angeles
Are you frustrated by the inability to sculpt your body through regular exercise and a strict diet? Do you wish there was a more effective way to achieve your desired body proportions? There is hope. Ashkan Ghavami is the Beverly Hills plastic surgeon of choice for individuals desiring a more beautiful and toned physique. He offers power liposuction, a procedure to reduce excess body fat in specific places, without spending months dieting or exercising to no avail. Simply put, there are stubborn pockets of fat that are nearly impossible to burn off with diet and exercise. Furthermore, with diet and exercise, it is difficult to tell your body where and how you want your curves and lines to change. With liposuction, you will work with Dr Ghavami to directly map out what you want removed. Today, it is also common to transfer this unwanted fat to the face, breasts or buttocks to further enhance and sculpt your body.
Plastic surgeons have been performing liposuction for many years, but only recently have elite surgeons like Dr. Ghavami mastered the art of the procedure to avoid creating unwanted irregularities in the skin and to include fat transfer. Thanks to modern liposuction technology and Dr. Ghavami’s technique, his patients enjoy a safe and less painful surgery with stunning results.
Enhance Your Body’s Contours with Liposuction
Liposuction is designed to reduce localized areas of excess fat that are out of proportion with the rest of the body. By removing the fat, liposuction creates greater body definition and a sleeker contour in the treated area. Clothing fits better, and the body looks more toned. Patients also get much more out of their exercise regimens. Results must be maintained and can even be enhanced by post-lipo workouts. Dr. Ghavami will work with you to customize your regimen.
Liposuction requires more than simply sucking the fat out of the body. Trained, experienced surgeons like Dr. Ghavami know how to remove the right amount of fat and contour and shape the remaining fat in the body by optimizing a patient’s contour to the maximum allowed from their natural bone structure. That is the secret to achieving results that look natural and beautiful. Dr. Ghavami is invited by numerous national and international plastic surgery societies to teach his body contouring techniques. See his bio for further details about this great honor.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
You may be a candidate for liposuction if you have stubborn fat on any of the following areas of the body and face:
- Upper arms
If you are considering having liposuction, Dr. Ghavami invites you to schedule a consultation to meet him. During your consultation, you will be asked about your specific area of concerns, as well as your ideal results. Dr. Ghavami will examine your problem spots and advise how he can improve them for a better overall body shape. Your medical history and health status will also be discussed to verify you are healthy enough to be a suitable candidate for surgery. Dr. Ghavami recommends liposuction to patients who will enhance or maintain their results via exercise post-op. Contrary to popular belief, liposuction should not be and is not for “lazy” people.
If you decide to schedule your operation, you will receive detailed information about preparing for the day of surgery and your recovery. Dr. Ghavami will also draw your body silhouette and show you in a three-way mirror what to expect, based on your bone frame and skin quality.
What Does Liposuction Surgery Entail?
While every treatment plan varies slightly, depending on the specific needs of the individual patient, the general surgical details are the same.
Liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure. Total surgical time depends on the area(s) treated and whether another procedure is included in the operation (some patients opt to combine liposuction with tummy tuck or another body sculpting procedure). The most common combination today — performed in nearly 75 percent of Dr. Ghavami’s patients — is fat transfer to the buttocks to create a rejuvenated, firmer and perkier buttock shape.
The areas to be treated are marked to guide Dr. Ghavami during the operation. Local or general anesthesia is administered. Special tumescent “wetting solution” is injected into the treatment area. The wetting solution constricts blood vessels for less post-operative pain and bleeding. Dr. Ghavami makes tiny incisions in the treatment area, and inserts a small tube called a cannula to break up the fat layer. Then, the excess fat is gently suctioned out of the body through the cannula. Dr. Ghavami uses low suction settings and performs specific maneuvers to avoid unnecessary trauma to the muscles or skin.
The incisions are closed and the treated zones are placed in a post-operative surgical garment. This compression garment is placed over the entire area to reduce post-operative swelling and help the amazing results appear quickly.
Modern Techniques Improve Safety and Results
In addition to offering traditional suction-assisted liposuction (or SAL, which is described above), Dr. Ghavami is trained in the latest liposuction techniques to enhance the safety and aesthetic outcome of surgery. He uses various shaped cannulas and sizes for different areas and performs extensive “pre-tunneling” to loosen the fat to be removed.
One of these techniques is power-assisted lipectomy (PAL), in which a high vibration energy is transmitted to the cannula, which aids greatly to break up the fat and separate it from the more superficial layers of fat just under the skin. This makes the fat easier to remove and prevents skin irregularities. Dr. Ghavami uses a special handpiece to transmit the energy to the fatty area; the energy loosens and melts the fat, which makes it possible for Dr. Ghavami to remove more of it. PAL is performed in the majority of cases. This is a highly effective technique for revision liposuction and fixing botched contour problems after poorly or excessively performed liposuction. It is also very effective for male patients who have more fibrous fatty tissue.
Recovering from Liposuction
In the days immediately following surgery, the treated area may be swollen, sore and bruised. Dr. Ghavami asks that you rest and relax as much as possible while walking and ambulating as much as possible in between rest periods. Recovery isn’t painful, but some patients have compared it to recovering from a tough workout. Oral medication is prescribed in case of discomfort, and the compression garment should help control swelling.
Dr. Ghavami will advise when it is safe for you to resume work, exercise and the rest of your normal routine. Most patients return to desk jobs after about a week, and wait several weeks before going back to the gym.
As your body heals and the post-operative side effects subside, your liposuction results will become more apparent. Results will continue to improve in the following weeks. Final results are typically seen after several months. Since the incisions are so small and made in inconspicuous areas, scarring is hardly noticeable.
